dans bribes, traces et espaces désertés, il est question d'espaces d'absences, d'espèces de présences à travers une recherche sur la représentation de l'être humain et de ses traces.

les bribes laissent deviner des réseaux d'objets - traces d'une présence absorbée dans le temps. leur succession en série permet d'entrevoir des fragments d'un quotidien incertain, des filaments de lumières, des espaces intermédiaires où les formes s'approchent les unes des autres.

dans la série traces, les plaques de plexiglas montrent des formes prélevées à partir de personnages représentés dans des peintures anciennes. ces formes englobent divers éléments plastiques de la peinture, dépassent le personnage et le résument en même temps, le ramènent à une forme essentielle, dans un état incertain entre apparition et disparition.

les espaces désertés évoquent des espaces vides d'occupants, des espaces picturaux que les personnages auraient quittés. le spectateur sent leur absence en se trouvant face à un espace flottant, qui peut lui paraître familier et étranger à la fois, comme un état de mémoire, dans lequel il peut se projeter, mais toujours pour se trouver face à lui-même.

My work deals with the human presence, how it is represented and perceived in art. It is also an investigation of the traces left by human beings through manufactured items. I explore new spaces and territories as well as forms coming from existing materials such as everyday objects or paintings belonging to western art's history.

Fragments displays traces of everyday items collected out of 17th century still-lives that are reactivated in these paintings. The objects appear out of time, in a space between present and past, like fragments of memories. They are painted on small or medium sized plates (10cm x 15 cm; 20cm x 30 cm) displayed in lines and series. The traces of the objects are organised in lines or fragments of networks, recalling association of ideas or memories.

The series Traces collects different forms elaborated from the shape of people represented in ancient paintings (e.g. the duchess of Alba by Goya). These shapes are an expression of the painted subject, and at the same time, they are reduced to an essential form. These shapes are eventually presented as anonymous, but they keep a strong human presence, lying in an indistinct state between appearance and disappearance.

The series Empty Spaces, also derived from ancient paintings, evokes spaces deserted by their occupants, interiors or landscapes where the presence of human beings has been erased. In these large size pictures (1m x 1,5 m), the spectator feels their absence, he faces a floating space, that seems familiar and strange at the same time. The spectator can project himself in these spaces, but is always eventually confronted with his own image.

The three series together are questioning the presence and absence, the appearance and disappearance of human beings, and how human beings are represented in art.
